Report from the Xmas Boat Parade & NCAA Football Championships
Sunday morning was a very ugly start to
a beautiful day. The Boat Parade and the football games were nearly
beyond our endurance. The “Dead End Canal Yacht Club” passed on
official entries in the parade but there were several individual
entries. Boston Bob's sailboat, Erie Earl's pocket Trawler etc. None
of our entries won any prizes. We think it was fixed.
Since the boat parade started at the
Big Game Waterfront Grill our 'DECDYC' members decided to forgo the
'Pukin Pelican' for the evening and watch the championship NCAA
football games and the start and finish of the Christmas Parade
there. The place is huger than the Pelican but it wasn't near big
enough.
We may have started to early but we
knew it would be crowded. That was the understatement of the decade.
We were able to get a couple tables to watch the second half of the
#3 Auburn versus #5 Mizou for the SEC Championship. Then the really
crowed sports bar got REALLY crowded when the Christmas Boat Parade
crowd showed up. They blocked our view of the game and we told them
to go stand somewhere else. Most of them were very polite and moved
away but others moved into the void.
Then the boats were gone and the crowd thinned a little. We shared Pizza and pitchers of beer. They have Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap but no one wanted to share my pitcher? The girls returned to our table but found no seats because other male 'DECYC' members had wrangled into their seats. These interlopers offered to give back their seats but the ladies decided to leave for a better view of the parade. They promised to return but we doubted it.

Then it was 8 pm and Auburn had beaten
Mizou to remain #3 in the nation. Now it was bedlam at the Big Game.
We discovered that despite what seemed to be hundreds of televisions
(not really) most of us were out of position for one or two of the
games. The Reverend drove most of us back to the canal and to our
homes to flip back and forth between the three huge games.
Ohio
State was upset by Michigan State, FSU beat Duke, Stanford beat
Arizona State and the cheers and groans could be heard around the
canal!
Now
it's Sunday and I'm watching the Eagles play somebody in a blizzard.
This has me laughing uncontrollably because I love to watch other
people in that weather! I feel much better!
