Fort Myers Beach Watering Hole Changes

Deadline Wednesday; Pukin' Pelican.

We had lunch at the Pukin' Pelican today. To answer your question, no the food isn't that good but we, the Dead Canal Yacht Club members and friends, have decided to support the local watering holes as much as we can during the off-season. Especially since 'Bootlegger's BBQ and Waterfront' is rumored to have reverted to the Big Game just before closing for the summer.

Does anyone know if that is in fact true? It makes sense because that has been pulled before by the owners. No good member of the DECYC goes there anymore so we rely on rumors from fallen away members to bring us news of the Yuckee place. It will reopen as Big Game in September but we still wouldn't be caught dead in their.

The owners of 'Boot Kickens' were so often confused with Bootlegger's bad reviews on TripAdvisor that it could have lead to Boot Kickens demise. We DECYCers begged the owner of Boot Kickens to change the name but she wouldn't. When one restaurant has 31 'terrible' and 29 'poor' out of 173 total reviews, something is very wrong.

Who would chance a nearly 30% chance to be so badly disappointed? And who would keep an easily confused word like 'Boot' in their name except some operator that was doomed to fail anyway. No, read my lips, No! You can't make it on just that gorgeous view of Hurricane Pass like Boot Kickens tried. You need friendly staff, decent prices and good food.

I believe that is exactly what we now have at the Nauti Parrot Dock Bar at that location. Since it was closed all last season, hopefully the locals have a short memory of the Boot Kicken's operators and owner. The Nauti Parrot Dock Bar is going to be a success as far as we can see after 2 days. Despite being overwhelmed on the opening day, Monday May 1st, the DECYC is more than willing to support them all they way.

The Grand Opening is scheduled for Saturday, May 27th when all the staff will be on their 'A' game and computers will stay up and running and the food and drinks will flow smoothly! There are good reasons that most circuses arrive in town during the night and prepare their site before parading the Elephants down Main Street!
