Thank You Irma!
I sure hope you and yours are okay
after Irma tore through Florida. Sorry for not updating this blog
more often but we were all discombobulated for a while. No one on the
'Dead End Canal' died or suffered major damage although everyone
suffered some.
Seawalls, trees and pool cages were the
worst hit along the canal. Roof tiles and shingles flew around and
crashed against the streets and houses. Most of us left. We did too
but only to take advantage of our Son and Daughter-in-Law's second
story in case those hysterical weather-holes were some how right
about the scientifically impossible storm surge.
My wife and I stayed to see all the
boats in the canal low and dry. No water, where did it go? Sunday, we
split for higher ground, reluctantly. No one had power since early
Sunday morning. FPL you assholes! So we sat in front of their open
front door and watched the 'cane go by thanks to their recessed alcove!
Cell phone service stopped early
Monday morning so we didn't have to respond to all our distant family
concerns. The car battery became our savior. We listened to the radio
and charged our phones and it helped keep up our spirits as long as
certain Meteorologists weren't on.
They say we were lucky because they eye
wobbled East as it approached Fort Myers. I agree that we didn't get
the worst impact and that areas just adjacent to us got whacked
harder but a few older Meteorologists called the turn and weakening
while the younger Meteorologists kept up the 'Chicken Little'
routine!
I'll agree we were lucky to have 'Chuck
the Generator' (purchased 3 days before 'Cane Charlie') on hand to
rrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrr all day and night long, until the power returned
on Thursday. We were happy to have our family take Grandma's room for
a few days so they could be cool. We were happy to learn that we
could live like Floridians before AC.
In a bizarre way we were happy that our
old, fat, blind dog Roscoe, died a few days before Irma arrived.
There was no way for him to understand what was going on no matter
how much we had comforted him.
Our house damage may not exceed our
insurance deductible and the sea wall probably isn't covered so we'll
suck it up and press on and be thankful that we aren't in Puerto Rico! At least they don't have power so they can't hear Trump lecture them!
